Fashion NOTES

This insanely luxurious oil can be used as bath or body oil, or for an Abhyanga treatment. Abhyanga is the Sanskrit word for the practice of self-oiling or self-massage. Generously applying high-quality medicinal oil to the entire body is an integral part of the overall health and wellbeing systems defined by Ayurveda. Abhyanga is also an essential part of the Ayurvedic detoxification system known as Pancha Karma. This lightly aromatic oil celebrates exotic and nourishing oils extracted from Amazonian plants.

DETAILS

USAGE
The Abhyanga Treatment
An Abhyanga treatment takes about 20-30 minutes and should be done in a private, warm and relaxing environment. You will need to rest on something that you don’t mind getting oily, such as a designated Abhyanga towel or blanket.

Step 1: Heat The Oil
Heat up a small amount of the oil by pouring it into a glass, metal or ceramic bowl that has been previously heated with boiling water.

Step 2: Apply Generously
Apply the warm oil generously over the entire body, avoiding head. The application quantity should be 2-3 times that of a normal moisturizing application. Use long loving strokes to apply the warmed oil.

Step 3: Allow Time To Absorb
Make sure you can rest comfortably for a minimum of 20 minutes to allow the majority of oil to absorb. Make sure you remain warm during this time so use a space heater if necessary.

Step 4: Rinse
Rinse off any remaining oil in a hot shower. You will not need soap because the oil and hot water will have carried all the dirt, bacteria and dead skin cells away.

This oils can also be used as body or bath oil.

ALCHEMY
TO ANOINT

To anoint is defined as pouring or rubbing the body with perfumed oil, milk, butter or other substances. Anointing with oil dates back to before Christ. The Charaka Samhita is one of the oldest and most important writings on Ayurveda dating back to 400-200 BCE. Here is a quote taken from Vol. 1.

“The body of one who uses oil massage regularly does not become affected much even if subjected to injury or strenuous work. By using oil massage daily, a person is endowed with pleasant touch, trimmed body parts and becomes strong, charming and least affected by old age.”

SNEHA
The Sanskrit word Sneha means both “oil” and “love.” Ayurvedic texts teach that to anoint the body with oil is to saturate it with love of self, and love for our plant allies. This is our gift from this masterful Indian tradition.
